Publications and Working Papers:

  • The International Journal of the Economics of Business is currently being offered to ISNIE members at a discounted society rate.  Please see the website for details.
  • The Journal of Institutional Economics is an interdisciplinary journal that will be of interest to all academics working in the social sciences, particularly in economics and business studies. Contributions from politics, geography, anthropology, sociology and philosophy will also be welcomed. The Journal of Institutional Economics aims to provide all authors with an expert verdict on their articles within fifty days of submission.
  • The Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics now provides abstracts of recent issues on-line. 
  • The Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics can be accessed on-line from the Ludwig von Mises Institute, formally the editorial home of the Review of Austrian Economics.  The new journal, as well as the first 10 volumes of the RAE, are fully available on-line (in PDF format). 
  • The Review of Austrian Economics  is now edited by Peter Boettke at Goerge Mason University.  The new editorial board would welcome contributions from ISNIE members.  See Professor Boettke's site for information about the RAE

Research Organizations:

  • ATOM - Anlayse Théorique des Organisations at des Marches  (Analytical Theory of Organizations and Markets) at the University of Paris I - Sorbonne is headed by Claude Ménard.  The center focuses on NIE-based research in industrial organization.
  • CORI - The Contracting and Organizations Research Institute at the University of Missouri-Columbia is an interdisciplinary research center focused on the law and economics of contracting and organizational structure.  The CORI Contracts Library provides access to over 430,000 contract documents as data for research.
  • EIPE - Erasmus Institute for Philosophy and Economics is a multidisciplinary research institute and graduate school of the Erasumus University Rotterdam.  The institute combines the expertise of faculty in philosophy, economic, management, and history in a joint research program, "Institutions."
  • ESNIE - European School on New Institutional Economics is a week-long advanced seminar for PhD students and Post-Docs. The goal of ESNIE is to make PhDs and Post-doc aware of the recent development in NIE and to train them in using rigorous methods. In addition, participants will benefit from intensive networking aimed at stimulating future exchanges and co-operation among participants and favouring the integration of young researchers in the research community.
  • The Ronald Coase Institute's mission is to better understand how real economic systems work, so that individuals and societies have greater opportunities to improve their well0being.  The Institute builds the capacity of young scholars to do relevant research on institutions and communicate their findings in their own countries; collaborates to expand the body of knowledge on issues important to countries seeking to build a market economy; maintains a worldwide network of scholars doing institutional research; and works to broaden understanding of institutional analysis.
  • IMAD (Institute of Macroeconomics Analysis and Development) in Slovenia conducts research to provide a solid foundation for Slovenia's macroeconomic development.  The Institute also holds International Conferences.
  • EDIRC (Economics Departments, Institutes and Research Centers) is a vast list of research organizations worldwide.
  • Comision Andina de Juristas, Lima, Peru. The Andean Commission of Jurists (English version) is a private international non-profit association that provides juridical services of public interest to strengthen and enforce the law and disseminate democratic institutions with a perspective of respect for human rights in the six countries of the Andean region: Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. Includes some recent macroeconomic, social, and demographic data.
  • Max-Planck-Institute for Research into Economic Systems in Jena, Germany, has two divisions focusing on Institutional Economics and Evolutionary Economics. The web site includes information about the Institute as well as it programs and publications.
  • The Finnish Economic History Association has compiled a 1998 Yearbook on the web to promote the study of Finnish economic history.

  • The NIE Abstracting Journal on SSRN provides access to some of the latest research in NIE. Authors can use the NIE Abstracting Journal to disseminate their research by uploading their papers to SSRN and choosing the NIE subject area.
  • Harvey James, Univ. of Missouri - Columbia, has compiled an Annotated Bibliography on Transaction Cost Economics.
  • Those interested in Economic History will find a wealth of information at the Economic History Services web page.
  • Tax Analysts, a non-profit organization, is in the process of compiling and posting documents and other historical information regarding the evolution of the United States' federal taxation system. You can find this information at the Price of Civilization page.
